In accordance with the changes, teachers will be completely exempt from military service during their work period. As reported by a source from the Asia-Plus agency, this decision was presented at a parliamentary meeting on October 15 by the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Khomid Khoshimzoda.

Khoshimzoda noted that this innovation is aimed at raising the status of educators and addressing the problem of teacher shortages in schools. The draft law "On the Status of Educators" includes a provision that proposes a deferment from military service for the duration of employment in education.

Additionally, he suggested replacing the term "general education rural schools" in the law "On Military Duty and Military Service" with the broader term "general education schools." According to the ministry, the shortage of teachers remains a serious issue, and, according to Minister Rahim Saidzoda, at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, Tajikistan is short of more than 3,800 educators, despite the fact that about 13,000 students graduated from pedagogical universities this year.
