According to information from The Guardian, the arrest was confirmed by Narghiz's brother, Mehdi, who was at the memorial service. One of her team members, who wished to remain anonymous, suggested that the detention might be related to her statements in Mashhad after the death of Alikordi, which activists consider "suspicious."

According to information from Mohammadi's family, law enforcement used tear gas and violence to disperse those gathered at the ceremony. The husband of the human rights activist, Taghi Rahmani, who is in Paris, expressed his concern not only about his wife's fate but also about other activists detained on the same day.

At this time, Iranian authorities have not made any official statements regarding the detention of 53-year-old Mohammadi. It is unclear whether she will be sent back to prison to serve the remainder of her sentence, and her supporters have previously warned of a high risk of re-incarceration.

Meanwhile, Iranian state television, citing the governor of Mashhad, Hassan Hosseini, reported that prosecutors ordered the temporary detention of some participants in the ceremony due to chants that were deemed "violating norms." According to him, these measures were preventive to protect those present from possible crowd pressure.

Mohammadi's family does not have information about who is holding her: the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the police, or other security forces.

Narghiz Mohammadi was imprisoned from November 2021 until her release in December last year, when she was convicted in cases related to her fight against the death penalty and the mandatory wearing of the hijab. Supporters report that she suffered several heart attacks in prison and underwent emergency surgery in 2022. At the end of 2024, her lawyer also mentioned the need for the removal of a bone growth, which raised concerns among doctors.

After her release, Mohammadi continued her human rights work, actively participating in public protests and speaking in international media, including at a rally outside Evin prison in Tehran, where she had previously been held.

In 2023, Narghiz Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
