According to information provided by the media, the tribunal is examining events that took place during mass protests and student unrest, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people, according to estimates from international organizations. UN reports mention a figure of up to 1,400 victims.

In this same case, the tribunal found two other high-ranking officials guilty: Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the former Minister of Home Affairs, was also sentenced to death, while Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, the former Inspector General of Police, received a five-year prison sentence. Mamun pleaded guilty and is cooperating with the investigation as a prosecution witness, as reported by the "Xinhua" agency.

According to media reports, about a year ago Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and is currently in India as an exile, while Kamal has been declared wanted.

The trial took place in Dhaka and focused on crimes against humanity attributed to the former leadership of the country for the use of force against demonstrators, including the use of firearms. This trial has become an unprecedented event for Bangladesh, causing widespread resonance both within the country and beyond.

The case against Hasina and her supporters unfolds against the backdrop of a sharp political conflict in Bangladesh. Supporters of the former Prime Minister argue that the trial has political motives, while the current authorities and prosecutors emphasize that the verdict serves as evidence of "inevitable accountability for mass human rights violations."
