In Iran, demonstrations in support of the authorities took place in Tehran and many other cities across the country. This was reported by the state television and radio company.

Participants in the rallies chanted slogans in defense of the Iranian government and condemned recent acts of terrorism committed by protesters.

According to the Tasnim agency, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian also participated in a rally organized in Tehran.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran's elite military forces, previously called on citizens to actively participate in planned demonstrations in support of the government, which are set to take place on January 12.

In their statement, they said: "We call on the entire Iranian people to participate en masse and decisively in the support actions planned for tomorrow."

The Supreme Leader of the country, Ali Khamenei, had previously claimed that the protesters were acting at the behest of foreign powers.

Protests in the country began on December 28 in response to a sharp collapse of the national currency and rising inflation. Soon, they spread to almost all regions, and in two cities in western Iran, control reportedly fell to the protesters. In response, the authorities began a harsh crackdown on the demonstrations, resulting in a near-total internet blackout in the country. According to various sources, the death toll has exceeded 600 people, although official figures are still unavailable.
