According to the Independent Persian website, protests in Iran continue. On January 7, the opposition reported the capture of two cities - Abdanan and Malekshahi.

On the following day, January 8, social media began to report that Iranian police opened fire on demonstrators in Karaj, which is located near Tehran. The shooting started when protesters blocked traffic on the street.

There are also reports online that protesters allegedly took control of Karaj, although these reports have not yet been confirmed.

We remind you that mass anti-government demonstrations have been ongoing in Iran since late December. The reasons for the discontent include high inflation and a sharp decline in the value of the rial. According to the opposition, protests have spread to about 100 cities. To suppress the demonstrations, authorities are using tear gas and water cannons, and there are also reports of internet connectivity issues.
