Zelensky emphasized that increased vigilance is necessary in the coming days, as Russia is planning a serious attack and is waiting for the right moment to execute it. He also urged citizens to monitor air raid alerts and noted that each region must be ready for operational actions and assistance to people.
Against the backdrop of constant attacks by the Russian army on energy infrastructure, Ukraine is on the brink of "collapse" in the energy supply sector, as reported by DW, citing a statement from the German Foreign Ministry. A representative of the ministry stated that it has allocated an additional 60 million euros in humanitarian aid to Ukrainians affected by attacks on energy facilities and severe cold.
In particular, residents of frontline areas will be able to receive payments for the purchase of essential goods, including generators for shelters, heating systems, as well as clothing and blankets. Additional support measures are also being discussed.
The night attack on January 19 resulted in damage to five key energy infrastructure facilities in the Chernihiv region. According to the company "Chernihivoblenergo," tens of thousands of consumers were left without electricity. Repair work has begun; however, potential security threats may delay restoration.
On the morning of January 19, the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Artem Nekrasov, reported that power outages were observed among consumers in the Sumy, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions following the attacks.
Nekrasov also noted that the situation in Kyiv and its region remains particularly difficult due to the frost, which increases the load on the energy system. In the capital, 60 teams are working on restoring electricity supply, including 12 teams that have been brought in from other regions. Distribution system operators continue to apply network restrictions, and previously published hourly outage schedules are temporarily not in effect.
Restrictions also remain in the Odesa region, where emergency recovery work continues following previous attacks.
