At the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, delivered a speech addressing numerous current topics. His arrival was delayed due to a technical malfunction of Air Force One, but the delay was minor, and Trump was able to speak for over an hour. This was reported by The Insider.

Trump's speech sparked a wave of discussions among European allies. Starting with a recount of the achievements of the U.S. economy, he then focused on Greenland, relations with NATO, and criticism of European countries.

Negotiations on Greenland Trump expressed his intention to immediately begin negotiations for the purchase of Greenland, reminding that for nearly two hundred years, American presidents have tried to acquire this island. In particular, during World War II, the U.S. controlled Greenland after Germany occupied Denmark.

The President noted that the use of force is not being considered, but emphasized that the security of the island can only be ensured by the United States. He addressed Greenland with the phrase: "You can say 'yes,' and we will be very grateful, or say 'no,' and we will remember that." In his opinion, the request for Greenland is "insignificant" compared to the U.S. contribution to NATO.

Criticism of Europe and the threat of tariffs In his speech, Trump harshly criticized European leaders, claiming that Europe is going down the "wrong path." He mentioned issues such as mass migration and trade deficits.

Additionally, Trump threatened to impose tariffs on goods from eight NATO countries, including the UK and France, if an agreement on Greenland is not reached. He stated that tariffs could be set at 10% starting February 1 and increase to 25% by June. In particular, he mentioned the possibility of a 200% tariff on French wine after French President Emmanuel Macron refused to support Trump's initiative regarding Gaza.

According to the President, the U.S. no longer intends to "subsidize the whole world."

NATO and Ukraine Speaking about NATO, Trump stated that his country bears an unfair burden and expressed doubt that European allies would reciprocate: "We will be 100% with NATO, but I'm not sure they will respond in kind."

He also announced plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the forum, noting that both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to him, wish to conclude a peace agreement.

Relations with China and protests in Minnesota Trump also commented on his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, whom he called "an incredible person," adding that he stopped using the term "Chinese virus" at the request of the Chinese leader.

During the Q&A session, Trump commented on the protests in Minnesota, describing the participants as "rioters" and claiming without evidence that the protests are organized by "agitators" and are "fake." He noted that the administration plans to investigate possible fraud in the distribution of federal funds in the state.

The protests began after an ICE officer shot 37-year-old Reni Nicole Good in Minneapolis on January 7. On January 14, another federal agent shot Venezuelan Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis during an attempted arrest.
