In Kyiv, a Russian marine was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of prisoners

According to the investigation, the incident occurred in January 2025 during combat operations in the Kursk region. During an ambush organized by Ivanov and other Russian servicemen, two Ukrainian soldiers raised their hands and attempted to surrender, but Ivanov opened fire on them.

At the court hearings, Ivanov's comrades claimed that he acted on the orders of his commander. However, the court found that there was no need to use force, and Ivanov understood that he was carrying out a criminal order from which he could have refused.

The actions of the serviceman were classified as a violation of the laws and customs of war, resulting in the death of individuals under international protection.

The court also granted a partial civil claim, ordering Ivanov to pay 50 million hryvnias as compensation to the ex-wife of one of the deceased.
