A complete power outage occurred due to a technical malfunction related to a sharp drop in gas volumes at the Rumaila power plant in Basra, which led to a reduction in capacity by 1900 megawatts, as explained by the ministry. According to records published by users on social media, some homes still have electricity; however, streetlights are not functioning.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reports that restoration work is currently underway at power plants and transmission lines that have been repeatedly attacked by Iran.
In the next phase, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced the resumption of operations at power plants in the central provinces. This statement was made during a press conference by representatives of the ministry.
According to the ministry's information, production capacities in the north — in Nineveh, Kirkuk, and Salah ad-Din — have already been launched. Restoration work was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Minister Khalid Ghazai al-Maadidhi in cooperation with the National Control Center.
It is also reported that the first and fourth power units at the Di-Car combined cycle power plant have been successfully restarted, while restoration work on the remaining units is still ongoing.
