CIS countries will exchange data on the radiation situation

During the plenary session of the Mazhilis, a draft law regarding the exchange of data on the radiation situation between CIS countries was discussed.

The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Erlan Nysanbaev, presenting the draft law "On the Ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation among CIS Member States for the Exchange of Data on the Radiation Situation," noted that the document aims to coordinate the actions of authorized bodies on issues of information cooperation, changes in the radiation situation, as well as in cases of threats or facts of transboundary transfer of radioactive substances.

Currently, the monitoring of the radiation background in Kazakhstan is carried out by "Kazhydromet." According to the minister, the results from last year showed that "the density of radioactive fallout was within acceptable limits." Given the geographical location of the country, creating a unified mechanism for exchanging information on radiation monitoring has become a relevant task in the digital age.

Nysanbaev also provided examples of similar interaction systems in the international community. For instance, within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency, there is a round-the-clock platform called USIE – Unified system for information exchange in incidents and emergencies. Additionally, the European Union has implemented the EURDEP radiological monitoring system, which allows for real-time data exchange.

The minister emphasized that only data from the state radiation monitoring system will be transmitted to the union states.
