EMERGENCY SERVICE employee hospitalized after rescuing people in a fire at a nursing home

Alymbek Keleshov, a paramedic of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, showed courage while rescuing people during a fire that occurred on January 6 at a nursing home on Abay Street in Bishkek. As a result of his actions, he was hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning. His condition is currently considered satisfactory, and his life is not in danger.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 15 people were evacuated from the burning building during the incident; however, two elderly patients in critical condition died.

Four fire crews and an operational headquarters were involved in extinguishing the fire. The fire has been completely extinguished.

The city administration clarified that the fire started in the palliative care unit, covering an area of about 30 square meters, but the main building of the nursing home was not damaged.

High-ranking officials arrived at the scene, including Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov, and Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration Kanat Sagynbaev.

Of the 14 injured individuals taken to the Clinical Emergency Hospital, 13 were diagnosed with "carbon monoxide poisoning," and one sustained first-degree burns. Four patients are in moderate condition, while two are in serious condition. Minister of Health Kanaybek Dosmambetov personally visited the injured.

The city administration also noted that fire drills were conducted at the nursing home in July 2025, and compliance with fire safety regulations was under control. The mayor ordered a review of all documentation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
