The State Commission for the Coordination of Water Management in Central Asia has approved limits on the use of water resources and the operation regime of reservoirs during the inter-vegetation period for 2025-2026.

For the Amu Darya River, the total water intake limit is set at 55.4 billion cubic meters, of which 15.9 billion is designated for use from October to April.

The distribution of resources by country is as follows:

— Tajikistan — 9.8 billion cubic meters;
— Turkmenistan — 22 billion cubic meters;
— Uzbekistan — 22 billion cubic meters.

Additionally, 44 billion cubic meters of runoff are expected to reach the hydropost "Kerkhi," which is located in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya.

The Aral Sea and the delta of the Amu Darya will receive 4.2 billion cubic meters of water, half of which will be distributed during the inter-vegetation period.

Sanitary and environmental needs for the Dashoguz and Khorezm regions, as well as Karakalpakstan, amount to 800 million cubic meters. These volumes are intended to support ecosystems and water supply in the Aral Sea region.

As for the Syr Darya River, the water intake limit for the vegetation period is set at 4.21 billion cubic meters.

The distribution by country for the Syr Darya is as follows:

— Kazakhstan — 460 million cubic meters via the "Dustlik" canal;
— Kyrgyzstan — 47 million cubic meters;
— Tajikistan — 365 million cubic meters;
— Uzbekistan — 3.34 billion cubic meters.

These figures are based on runoff forecasts, available reserves, and needs for environmental water supply.

As of October 1 of this year, the total volume of water in reservoirs was 15.52 billion cubic meters.

Forecasts for 2026 suggest the following inflows to the upper reservoirs:

— to the Toktogul Reservoir — 2.93 billion cubic meters (+98 percent of the norm);
— to the Andijan Reservoir — 884 million cubic meters (95 percent of the norm);
— to the Charvak Reservoir — 1.07 billion cubic meters (75 percent of the norm).

Overall, the lateral inflow is expected to be at 71 percent of the norm, amounting to 12.77 billion cubic meters.
