It is reported that during the cold period of 2024/2025, these reservoirs not only failed to accumulate water but also lost part of their reserves due to a lack of precipitation. In the spring period, characterized by dryness, the water bodies were emptied, and water volumes decreased due to evaporation and filtration, as the Etrek River, which provides replenishment, dried up due to reduced flow and water usage upstream.
By March of this year, the area of the Mammetkel reservoir had decreased to 2.5 square kilometers, while the Delili reservoir had almost completely dried up. By early June, the Mammetkel reservoir also completely lost its water.
It is worth noting that the last complete drying of Mammetkel was recorded in October 2021.
The Mammetkel reservoir was commissioned in 1964 and has a total volume of 20.5 million cubic meters, while Delili, launched in 1970, holds 5.32 million cubic meters of water.
