Kurpsayskoye Reservoir

Kurpsayskoye Reservoir — a canyon-type reservoir
Kurpsayskaya Hydroelectric Power Station — HPP on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan. It is the second most powerful hydroelectric station in the country, after the Toktogul HPP. It is part of the Naryn-Syrdarya cascade of hydroelectric power stations. The dam of the HPP forms the Kurpsayskoye Reservoir with weekly regulation. It is located in a narrow mountain gorge. In the area of the dam, the gorge with slopes of 35-40 degrees rises above the bed of the Naryn River from 180 to 380 meters.
Construction of the dam began in 1976. It was filled in 1980. The first electricity was supplied in 1981.
The reservoir is canyon-type, approximately 40 km long, with an average width of 300—500 m. The area of the reservoir is 12 km², total volume — 370 million m³, useful volume — 35 million m³. It is used for energy purposes.
The capacity of the HPP is 800 MW, with an average annual output of 2.63 billion kWh.
The Kurpsayskaya HPP covers peak loads in the Unified Energy System of Central Asia, which increase with the onset of cold weather.
