The boarding school for blind and visually impaired children, located at 37 Kulatov Street, may be moved to Chon-Aryk, as reported by the parents of students on social media.

This school has been functioning since 1939 and is in need of major repairs. In September of this year, it was visited by the Minister of Education Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, the Minister of Construction Nurdana Oruntaev, and Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev. During the visit, Kasymaliev instructed to develop proposals for the construction of a new, modern boarding school that meets all requirements. However, parents claim that rumors began circulating afterward that the new educational institution would be built in Chon-Aryk.

“In our parent community, information has emerged that next year the boarding school is planned to be moved to Chon-Aryk, and on the freed-up territory, a new facility or multi-story buildings from GIK may be constructed. At the moment, the school administration is not officially commenting on the situation, but we cannot ignore these rumors. If the school is relocated, it will be difficult for children to get there, and this will negatively affect families and teachers. They say that school buses will be organized, but this seems unrealistic. For example, classes start at 8 a.m., and children and teachers will have to wake up very early to make it to Chon-Aryk,” said parent Nuriya Kurmanalieva.

Moving such important institutions from their familiar location is unacceptable. A new school should be built in the same place. This is a matter of accessibility and respect for our children. It will affect families and teachers: the school is specialized, and its relocation is not just a change of address, but a loss of educational accessibility for our children.

According to Nuriya, parents plan to appeal to the country's leadership.

The Ministry of Education noted that the boarding school continues to operate as usual.

“No official statements regarding a possible move to Chon-Aryk have been received by the Ministry of Education. If such an initiative arises, it will be considered in the established manner,” the agency added.
