Azamat Nurmat uulu, a teacher from Kyrgyzstan, returned to his homeland after being detained in Turkey. He reported this on December 14 in an interview with "Azattyk".

According to Nurmat uulu, the Kyrgyz consulate in Istanbul negotiated on December 11, after which he was allowed to return home.

However, the legal proceedings are ongoing. The next hearing is scheduled for the end of January 2026, and his lawyer will be present at it.

Azamat Nurmat uulu was arrested on April 20, 2025, at Istanbul airport while accompanying a group of six students to an international mathematics Olympiad in Antalya through the educational center Zeen education in Bishkek. He was detained by border guards and eventually ended up in "Maltepe" prison, where he was released on bail in May.

The Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan reported that on April 20, a delegation consisting of 36 students, four parents, and three teachers from Zeen Education went to Antalya at the invitation of the Olympiad organizers. The other participants returned home on April 25.

On April 28, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Almaz Imangaziev, stated that Nurmat uulu was detained on suspicion of links to the movement of Fethullah Gülen, known in Turkey as "Hizmet," which has been designated a terrorist organization.

Azamat, 32, has been working as a mathematics teacher at the Kusein Karasaev Lyceum in the Issyk-Kul region, which is part of the international educational network "Maarif" (formerly "Sapat"), for the past eight years. The attempted coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016, claimed the lives of more than 300 people. Turkish authorities accused Fethullah Gülen of orchestrating the coup and demanded his extradition from the USA, declaring his movement a terrorist organization. Gülen and his supporters rejected these accusations, claiming that the government itself organized the coup. In October 2024, Gülen passed away in the USA at the age of 83.
