At the meeting of the People's Kurultai, President Sadyr Japarov expressed support for the proposal of a delegate from the People's Kurultai regarding the need to amend the legislation concerning elections to the Jogorku Kenesh.

The discussion focused on lifting the residency requirement for citizens living abroad who wish to participate in parliamentary elections. One participant noted that the current legislation violates the electoral rights of Kyrgyz citizens outside the country.

The head of state emphasized that he supports this initiative.

“We will reach out to the deputies to consider this proposal. I believe it is justified. The law needs to be amended, and perhaps a separate quota should be created for Kyrgyz citizens abroad so that one or two candidates can be elected to the Jogorku Kenesh,” the president added.
