Roza Aitmatova, the sister of the famous writer Chingiz Aitmatov, has appealed to the authorities with a request to cancel the celebrations dedicated to the 100th anniversary of his birth. She suggested using the budget funds allocated for the anniversary to improve people's lives. This became known from her appeal published by the news agency "Kabar".
According to Roza, she anticipates possible disputes in society regarding the appropriateness of budget expenditures for celebrating the writer's anniversary.
“I am convinced that someone might say: ‘The money allocated for Aitmatov's 100th anniversary should be spent on something more important.’ Therefore, I ask the government in advance to direct these funds for the benefit of ordinary people. This will be a true sign of remembrance of him,” Roza Aitmatova's appeal states.
She also noted that 17 years have passed since Chingiz Aitmatov's death, yet his name continues to provoke disputes and criticism in society. Roza urged not to disturb the memory of the deceased writer and not to tarnish his name.
“Chingiz should neither be praised nor belittled — let him rest in peace,” she added.
Earlier, there was a public outcry following an interview with the former head of the Financial Police, Syymyk Japykeev, who assessed Chingiz Aitmatov's work, characterizing it as “mediocre” and “cheap.” These statements sparked heated discussions on social media and in the press.
