The European Union has decided to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran in the list of terrorist organizations. This was announced by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, on the social network X.

According to Borrell, this decision was justified by the high number of casualties during recent anti-government protests in the country.

The head of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, in response to this action by the EU, called it a strategic mistake. He noted that some states are trying to avoid conflict in the region, while Europe, in his opinion, is only escalating tensions. “After the attempt by the U.S. to restore anti-Iranian sanctions through the snapback mechanism, Europe is making another serious mistake by labeling our armed forces as terrorists,” he added in his post on X.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran also condemned the European Union's decision, viewing it as an act of hostility towards the Iranian people and warning that the consequences of this step will fall on the shoulders of European politicians.

It should be noted that mass protests in Iran, triggered by the economic crisis and the fall of the national currency, have been ongoing since late December 2025.
