A 37-year-old man was convicted in Petropavlovsk for stalking a woman over a period of one and a half years. The court sentenced him to 100 hours of community service. This information was provided by the publication Tengrinews.kz.

According to the publication, this conviction is the first in Kazakhstan for a stalking case and was announced in the Petropavlovsk City Court.

According to the victim, the 37-year-old resident of the city stalked her for more than a year and a half, displaying persistence and hostility. The woman reported to the police that the man constantly followed her, instigated conflicts, and threatened her and her acquaintances. He had previously encountered legal issues for obscene insults, causing bodily harm, and attacking an acquaintance of the victim. Nevertheless, his actions did not cease, as reported by the press service of the North Kazakhstan police department.

The woman noted that she became afraid to go outside, losing her peace of mind and worrying for the safety of her loved ones, who could also be in danger.

Since the enactment of Article 115-1 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan "Stalking" in September 2025, the accused attempted to establish contact with the victim twice. One such incident was recorded by a camera that the woman installed in her entrance.

On January 22, the victim contacted law enforcement. After an investigation, the materials were submitted to the court, which issued a ruling on January 28 — 100 hours of community service.

Additionally, the man is prohibited from consuming alcohol, must regularly visit the police for preventive talks, and is completely barred from any contact with the victim. The sentence has not yet come into legal force.

In the public safety department of the North Kazakhstan police, it was also reported that two cases of stalking were registered in the region in January, one of which is currently under pre-trial investigation.
