
The official noted that the pace of poverty reduction in the country leaves much to be desired.
According to information presented at a recent meeting with deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov reported that 950 thousand children live below the poverty line in Kyrgyzstan.
Baysalov noted that the poverty threshold is an annual income of 65 thousand soms per person.
"Of the children under 16 years old, 950 thousand are living in poverty," he specified. He also added that the government plans to implement measures aimed at reducing the poverty level in the republic to 15% within five years.
