In Kyrgyzstan, a nationwide campaign "Be Responsible!" aimed at improving men's health will kick off in February. This event was announced by the Ministry of Health of the republic.

The goal of this campaign is to identify risk factors for non-communicable diseases in men over 18 years old. During the month, men will be encouraged to visit local medical facilities, such as family medicine centers, family doctor groups, and midwifery and obstetric points, for preventive check-ups.

According to the Ministry of Health, the results of the previous campaign were positive: more than 973,000 men in the country underwent preventive screening. Elevated blood pressure was detected in 119,600 individuals (12%), 49,600 men (5%) were found to be at high risk for cardiovascular diseases, and about 60,800 (6%) were at high risk for diabetes.

In 2025, there were 15,388 new cases of hypertension and 7,364 cases of diabetes registered. Additionally, the Ministry of Health noted that cardiovascular diseases were responsible for 16,644 deaths among the adult population of Kyrgyzstan in 2025.

The "Be Responsible!" campaign was first launched in 2019 as part of the project "Effective Management and Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases in Kyrgyzstan," which is funded by the Swiss government. Since then, the campaign has been held annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The ministry emphasized that non-communicable diseases include chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, as well as chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes. The main preventable risk factors include poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol abuse, and lack of physical activity.
