In the village of Novopavlovka, a meeting took place on February 1 with the mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, and local residents. The main topic of discussion was the citizens' concern about the fate of the cemetery in connection with the planned extension of the road along Profsoyuznaya Street.
The recording of this event is actively spreading on social media. One resident expressed her concern: “We ask you to leave our cemetery in peace and consider the possibility of implementing the project without affecting it. Is this possible?”
In response, the mayor of the capital stated that there have been cases of reburials in history and urged not to make exceptions for this situation. He noted: “Why is it that when it comes to other facilities, you are ready to protest, but when it concerns you, demands for fairness arise?”
Also, one of the officials present at the meeting asked not to escalate the situation and read a statement from Olga Olshanskaya to the Ministry of Transport and Communications inquiring whether the road would pass through the cemetery.
Talantbek Soltobaev, who at that time held the position of First Deputy Minister of Transport, confirmed that the approved project documentation does not involve affecting the cemetery area.
Nevertheless, residents remain dissatisfied and reiterate the necessity of preserving the cemetery.
