At the meeting of the committee on agrarian policy, water resources, subsoil use, ecology, and environmental protection, Meder Mashiev, the Minister of Natural Resources, reported that electric vehicles make up only 0.8% of the total number of cars in Kyrgyzstan. This statement was made in the context of discussing the issue of smog in the country.

According to the data presented, the total number of cars in Kyrgyzstan reaches almost 1 million 909 thousand 961 units.

Mashiev noted that compared to 2024, there is a 13% increase in the number of cars, which raises certain concerns. Out of the total number of cars, 972 thousand run on gasoline, 339 thousand on diesel, 56.9 thousand on gas and gasoline, and 37 thousand are hybrids. At the same time, only 15.2 thousand cars, which is 0.8% of the total, are electric vehicles.

One of the main causes of smog, according to him, is exhaust gases.

“Currently, active work is underway to transition to environmentally friendly transport. In Bishkek, there are already 1,447 eco-buses running on gas, 120 electric buses, and 12-meter eco-buses. Each of these buses can replace four diesel vehicles and reduces diesel fuel consumption by 100 tons per day. In addition, more than 100 electric charging stations have already been installed in the city, and more than 2,000 new applications for their installation are currently being considered,” the minister added.
