Every year, only 1 percent of the water supply networks are replaced in Bishkek.
He noted that the cost of cold water according to meters is 10.45 soms per cubic meter, while half a liter of soda will cost 150 soms.
“The price of water is very low. It is important to understand that its reserves are not limitless, and we should not waste it irrationally. Replacing networks and installing water meters is a necessary measure to ensure resources even for our grandchildren,” he added.
Jumaliev also reported that against the backdrop of current tariffs, the enterprise will end 2025 with losses from its core activities.
“Electricity prices have risen, and security services have also become more expensive. Current tariffs do not allow us to cover costs. For the development of 'Vodokanal', it is necessary to have an additional 500-600 million soms at its disposal. We must consider the possibility of raising tariffs for the sake of the city's future,” he emphasized.
When asked by deputy Kazybek Ergeshov about how much the tariff needs to be increased, Jumaliev could not provide a specific percentage, noting that the procedure for approval with the antimonopoly service must first be followed.
“In 2023, we already conducted a tariff increase. At that time, the head of 'Bishkekvodokanal' promised that at least 40-50% of the water pipes would be replaced. However, to this day, even 10-15% of the problems have not been resolved,” the deputy expressed dissatisfaction.
Chyngyz Jumaliev noted that simply raising tariffs will not solve the problem of network wear and tear.
“It is necessary to support 'Vodokanal' and attract funds from the republican budget,” concluded Kazybek Ergeshov.
