To update the water supply systems in the new districts annexed to Bishkek as part of the administrative-territorial reform, nearly 2.5 billion soms will be required. This was announced at a meeting of the permanent commission of the city council by the director of "Bishkekvodokanal," Chyngyz Jumaliev.

He reported that as part of the reform, the enterprise has begun technical maintenance of 29 water intakes, 59 wells, as well as 373 kilometers of water supply and 101 kilometers of sewage networks.

“Although nothing has been transferred to the balance, we are providing maintenance. Since the beginning of 2024, over 1,000 requests for emergency repairs have been received in the new districts, and this is just for major cases, not counting minor ones,” he added.

Chyngyz Jumaliev also noted that about 380,000 cubic meters of water pass through the central treatment facilities daily.

“We aim to increase this volume to 500,000 cubic meters and plan to build two new treatment facilities: ‘West’ near the village of Dacha SU and ‘East’ in the village of Leninskoe. This will require 27 billion soms,” he emphasized.

“We are fully engaged in the technical support of water supply and sewage networks. However, we have appealed to the Bishkek mayor's office with a request not to asphalt areas under the administrative-territorial reform, as it is necessary to build new networks first. I believe they should not be accepted onto the balance until we update the water supply and sewage system. Given that these networks are not on our balance, we do not have the ability to replace them. This should be handled by the capital construction department, and funding needs to be provided in the local budget. Moreover, it is important not only to update the networks but also to install water meters and wells,” explained the director of "Bishkekvodokanal."

He also added that due to bursts of plastic pipes installed using the ashar method, there is a loss of water, and the lack of meters leads to irrational use of water resources.
