Turkmenistan Recognized as the Most Sober Country in the Post-Soviet Space
In Central Asia, as noted, the traditions of Islam influence people's attitudes towards alcohol, leading to lower consumption.
The report provides figures for alcohol consumption in other countries in the region: in Kazakhstan, this figure is 5.4 liters, in Kyrgyzstan — 3.9 liters, and in Uzbekistan — 2.1 liters.
Especially low levels of consumption are observed in Tajikistan (0.7 liters) and Turkmenistan (0.3 liters), which confirms their sober status.
At the same time, in terms of alcohol consumption, countries in Eastern and Central Europe hold leading positions. Romania ranks first with 17.1 liters of pure alcohol per capita per year, followed by Georgia (15.5 liters) and Latvia (14.7 liters). Among CIS countries, the highest consumption is recorded in Moldova (14.1 liters), Belarus (11.4 liters), and Russia (10.5 liters).
