At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev noted that the volume of water in Kyrgyzstan's reservoirs has significantly decreased compared to last year.

According to him, there are 498 reservoirs in the country with a total design capacity of 1.75 billion cubic meters, but only 939 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated, which is 32% less than the previous year.

He also added that in 2026, it is planned to sow 1.25 million hectares of arable land, of which 885 thousand hectares are intended for irrigation. To achieve an average irrigation rate of 4-5 times, approximately 6.3 billion cubic meters of water will be needed.
