Do the deputies care about what to do for the underprivileged?
On February 12, the Jogorku Kenesh made a decision in the first reading to increase payments for alternative service in Kyrgyzstan.
The bill, initiated by the Ministry of Defense, is titled "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts (to the Code on Non-Tax Revenues, the Code on Offenses, the Law on Universal Military Duty of Citizens, on Military and Alternative Services)" and proposes a significant increase in fees for the mobilization reserve and alternative service.
The changes are as follows:
- fees for the mobilization reserve will increase to 75,000 soms (currently 50,000 soms);
- fees for the training of reserve officers will be 90,000 soms (instead of 70,000 soms);
- alternative service for family circumstances will rise to 25,000 soms (up from 18,000 soms);
- the cost of alternative service for health reasons will be 50,000 soms (instead of the current 25,000 soms);
- for alternative service on religious grounds, one will have to pay 50,000 soms (instead of 25,000 soms);
- enrollment in the second category reserve will also be 50,000 soms (currently 25,000 soms);
- the fine for non-compliance by a conscript or military liable person with military calculation rules will increase to 10,000 soms (currently 1,000 soms).
The authors of the bill noted that this increase is due to economic growth and inflationary processes in the country.
