The Sun 'smiled' at the Earth: astronomers showed a giant smiley face
Researchers from the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences presented a unique image of the Sun, in which the star appears as a "smiling" face. This photo was published by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS on its official platforms.

According to astronomers, a structure has formed on the surface of the Sun that resembles a giant smiley face with a diameter of about 1.5 million kilometers. Two prominent active regions, which can be called the "eyes" of the smiley, are ten times larger than the Earth, while the "smile" is created by a prominence approximately 500 thousand kilometers long.

"Right now, the Sun is a huge smiley face, measuring 1.5 million kilometers. The eyes of the star are represented by two large active zones, and the smile is formed by a massive prominence. It expresses more kindness than anger, although it does have a hint of skepticism," the laboratory described this phenomenon.

Astronomers noted that at this moment, the Sun is showing its "smiling" side specifically towards the Earth.
