Russian deputies in the State Duma unanimously supported a bill that imposes an obligation on communication operators to block services at the request of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in two readings. This was reported by the publication "Meduza".

According to the new legislation, the FSB is granted the right to block communications, regardless of the presence of security threats in the region or country. The adopted law states that operators are obliged to "suspend the provision of communication services at the request of the FSB in cases defined by the regulatory acts of the President of the Russian Federation".

In the initial version of the bill, it was stipulated that communications would be terminated at the "request" of the FSB only in situations "established by the regulatory legal acts of the president and the government, to protect citizens and the state from possible security threats". However, in the updated version, "request" has been replaced with "requirement," and references to the government and security threats have been excluded.
