During a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agricultural policy, water resources, ecology, and environmental protection, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, reported that by 2026, it is planned to provide drinking water to 773 settlements in Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that work on creating a new water supply system has already been completed in the village of Toru-Aigyr.

“Currently, construction work is underway in 120 villages. Project documentation is being developed for 229 settlements, tenders have already been announced in 27 villages, and technical and economic justification is being prepared for 177 villages. It is planned that by the end of this year, construction work will be completed in 70 villages and 3 cities, which will allow 200,000 people to be provided with clean water,” added Kerimaliev.

In addition, he reported that since 2021, more than 560 million dollars have been invested in the water supply sector, of which over 55 million came from the state budget.

“With these funds, from 2020 to 2025, work has been carried out to provide drinking water to the population in 25 cities and 601 villages. Water supply systems have also been transferred for use in 194 villages,” the official clarified.

Last year, thanks to the activities of the Department of Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Management under the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture, 40 villages gained access to clean water, providing water to 75,000 people. We continue to work in this direction with the support of donors,” he concluded.
