Workers appealed to the ombudsman
In the Talas region, there was a case of local builders being fired and replaced with foreign workers. This information was received from the Ombudsman Institute of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the press service, a group of 21 workers submitted a collective appeal. They stated that they had been working on the construction of a multi-story residential building from January 5 to 16, but were subsequently fired without explanation. About 60 citizens from other countries were hired in their place.
The workers noted that employment contracts were not signed with them, although a record was kept in the timekeeping log, and there were photo and video evidence of their activities.
The Ombudsman Institute sent inquiries to various organizations, including the Labor Legislation Control and Supervision Service under the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration, the GIK, the regional prosecutor's office, and the president's representative in Talas.
In the response from the GIK, it was indicated that they act as the customer for the construction of mortgage facilities, while the actual contractor is the state enterprise "Kyrgyzstroyservice."
According to the institute's staff, the project was previously handled by another construction company, which did not complete the work and exited the project. As a result, the object was handed over to a new contractor.
The new contractor expressed the intention to hire local workers, provided they have the necessary qualifications and experience.
In early February, the applicants reported that they were re-employed and expressed gratitude to the ombudsman for protecting their rights.
