Queues for Spring: The Tulip Festival is held for the first time in Bishkek
With the arrival of spring, Bishkek has filled with bright flowers and active trade. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, in collaboration with an agricultural company, held the first Tulip Festival in the square near Agroprom.

This event was a pleasant surprise for the city residents ahead of the March 8 holiday. The festival showcased 37 varieties of tulips delivered from the Netherlands — a country renowned worldwide for its flower cultivation.

Buying Flowers for the Holiday

The stalls are bustling with activity. People are carefully selecting shades: from classic reds to soft pinks, whites, yellows, and bi-colored varieties. Many came specifically for the sale.

- "It's convenient and profitable. You can buy beautiful flowers at low prices and delight your mom, wife, or sister," shoppers say.

Some are already preparing bouquets in advance, as there are only a few days left until International Women's Day.

A representative from the "Meerim" company shares tips on keeping tulips fresh: they should be wrapped in damp paper and stored in a cool place. Each buyer can receive detailed information on how to care for the flowers to extend their lifespan.

Not Just Flowers, But Also Bulbs

The festival also offers tulip bulbs for sale. They are planted in the fall and bloom in the spring.

The organizers note that interest in planting materials is shown not only by homeowners but also by residents of new buildings who wish to beautify their yards and flowerbeds.

New Opportunities for Farmers

This festival has become the first experience of its kind for the capital. Iskak Anvarbekov, the coordinator of fairs in Bishkek from the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasizes that such events connect producers and buyers directly, reducing costs and making products more accessible.

Experts believe that the development of the floral sector could become a promising niche for farmers. This year, the bulbs were planted and grown by local producers. With government support and investments in greenhouse complexes, the expansion of tulip production is possible in the future.

If the festival proves successful, it could become an annual tradition and a bright symbol of the beginning of spring in Bishkek. It would be interesting to create a photo zone to capture the unique shades as a keepsake.

Judging by the crowded queues and the smiles of buyers, the first experience of "tulips" can already be considered successful.

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with Tulipland, organized this vibrant festival not only as a cultural event but also as a tourist product, expecting feedback from buyers.

The festival runs from March 2 to 10, offering both wholesale and retail sales of tulips.

The main goal of the event is to support local producers, increase the share of domestic products in the local market, and provide quality, eco-friendly flowers to the population.

Additionally, the festival aims to develop the floral industry, promote new varieties, and attract investments in this sector. The event includes consultations with specialists and the exchange of experiences in flower cultivation.
