This medicinal plant is mainly harvested in the mountains.
In Kyrgyzstan, illegal harvesting and export of macrothamia (endemic) continues, as reported in a recent interview with Azat Sagynov, the deputy director of the ecological and technical supervision service under the Ministry of Natural Resources, on "Birinchi Radio".
Sagynov noted that despite the existing moratorium, local residents continue to dig up the plant with its roots and send it outside the country. He emphasized that this process violates the temporary ban established by government resolution No. 270 dated May 28, 2024, which is in effect until January 1, 2027.
This moratorium covers not only macrothamia but also other rare plant species such as arnebia, ash tree, aconite, aflatun onion, rhodiola, Samarkand immortelle, and several species of beetles.
“Nevertheless, macrothamia continues to be harvested in the southern mountains of the republic. This plant is used in medicine, cosmetology, and other fields, which causes serious damage to our flora,” added Sagynov.
