This year, the ceremony for the Ig Nobel Prize, traditionally held in the United States, will take place in Europe for the first time. As reported by Meduza citing the Associated Press, this decision was made due to changes in the immigration policy implemented by the Donald Trump administration.

Editor of the magazine and host of the event, Mark Abrahams, noted: “Over the past year, the security situation for our guests in the U.S. has worsened. We cannot invite laureates and journalists from other countries to this event this year.”

Previously, the award ceremonies were held in September at institutions such as Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Boston University. However, last year, four out of ten winners declined to travel to the ceremony in Boston.

Now, the event will be organized in Zurich and other cities in Europe.
