In Kyrgyzstan, it is planned to sow 1 million 250 thousand hectares of agricultural crops. Of this area, 818 thousand hectares are allocated for irrigated lands, while 432 thousand hectares are for rainfed lands, reported the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
Currently, active planting is taking place in the southern regions of the country, such as Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken, as well as in the Chui Valley. At the same time, sowing work has not yet begun in the Talas, Issyk-Kul, and Naryn regions.
So far, the following has been sown in the republic:
- spring cereals — 32.6 thousand hectares;
- wheat — 11.4 thousand hectares;
- barley — 13.5 thousand hectares;
- potatoes — 2.4 thousand hectares;
- vegetables — 5 hectares.
According to data, the sown area in 2025 will be 1 million 245.6 thousand hectares, which is 0.1% less compared to last year. The sector is facing serious difficulties, as dry conditions in spring and summer, as well as a lack of irrigation water, have negatively affected the yield of grains, especially in the Chui, Talas, and Batken regions.
