At a briefing held today, Liu Jiangping, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of China to Kyrgyzstan, reported that China's share in the country's external debt is approximately 36%. She responded to a question from a correspondent of 24.kg regarding the size of Kyrgyzstan's national debt to China.

The ambassador noted that this share is gradually decreasing each year.

“It should be emphasized that the majority of the debt consists of concessional loans, many of which are aimed at the socio-economic development of the republic. They have had a significant impact on Kyrgyzstan's progress. Additionally, China provides a substantial amount of grant assistance to our country. The most important thing is that we see concrete results, which is very encouraging. Debt repayment is carried out according to a pre-established plan,” added Liu Jiangping.

Furthermore, she mentioned that during the COVID-19 pandemic, China provided a deferral for the repayment of Kyrgyzstan's debt twice, considering the prevailing situation.
