Legendary American boxer Roy Jones Jr. fought another match for the WBU world championship title in the light heavyweight category at the end of September.
The match took place in Krasnodar (Russia) on September 26, with the American legend facing Egyptian Hani Atiyo.
On the eve of the fight, the traditional weigh-in ceremony and "stare down" between Jones and Atiyo took place. In front of a large number of photographers, Roy Jones Jr. appeared in a Kyrgyz kalpak with the emblem of the city of Bishkek.
As it turned out, Jones was waiting for his flight at Moscow airport on his way to Krasnodar. At the same time, the Kyrgyz national kickboxing team was also there, heading to the World Cup in Anapa (Russia).
The captain of the Kyrgyz team, Mirbek Suyumbaev, presented the American with a national kalpak on behalf of all the athletes. Jones and the Kyrgyz team took several memorable photos together.
After parting with the Kyrgyz team, Jones put on the kalpak and continued to wait for his flight. He also wore the kalpak at the pre-fight press conference and weigh-in.
The fight itself turned out to be an easy walk for Jones Jr. Already in the second minute of the first round, the American sent his opponent to the canvas. There’s the power of the Kyrgyz kalpak.
