On Monday around noon local time, an accident occurred on the Ogun–Lagos highway, where a black Lexus SUV, carrying Anthony Joshua, collided with a parked commercial truck. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria (FRSC), five men were involved in the incident.
As a result of the collision, two people died, two were unharmed, and Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a medical facility. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding and loss of control of the vehicle during overtaking may have been the cause.
Photos from the scene show significant damage to the vehicle in which the boxer was traveling. The 36-year-old Joshua has family roots in Ogun State and returned to Nigeria after his recent victory over Jake Paul in Miami. Reports indicate he was heading from Lagos to visit relatives in the town of Sagamu to celebrate the New Year.
Local law enforcement agencies have begun a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the tragic incident.
