Emma Raducanu, representing Great Britain, has decided to withdraw from her match against Naomi Osaka at the United Cup taking place in Perth. According to Reuters, the reason for this is concerns about her physical condition.

At the age of 23, Raducanu was preparing for her first official match since October ahead of the Australian Open. However, the captain of the British team, Tim Henman, explained the situation by stating that the athlete's health comes first, and there is no need to take risks.

According to Henman, "she was very close to stepping onto the court. This decision was not easy. Emma has been training well and showing progress, but we concluded that it is not the right time for her return to competition," he said in an interview with the Australian channel Nine.

While local sources indicate a possible injury as the reason for her withdrawal, no official information has been provided. Henman also added that there is a possibility Raducanu could take to the court during the tournament.

Since her triumph at the US Open in 2021, Raducanu has faced difficulties with form and health. Last season, she managed to reach the quarterfinals in Miami but then ended her season early due to physical issues.

The next group match for the British team will be against the team from Greece. It is also worth noting that Jack Draper will not be in the team as he is recovering from a left arm injury.

The Australian Open will begin on January 18 and run until February 1.
