40 Athletes from Central Asian Countries to Participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics

The 2026 Winter Olympics, which will take place in Italy, will see the participation of 40 athletes from Central Asia.

The largest number of athletes will be from Kazakhstan – 36 athletes. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will each send two representatives.

Tajikistan will not participate in the games for the third consecutive time.

Turkmenistan also has no experience participating in the Winter Olympics.

The Kyrgyzstan team includes two athletes: Timur Shakirov, representing alpine skiing under the guidance of coach Igor Borisov, and Artur Saparbekov, who competes in cross-country skiing and trains with Alexander Levdansky. More information about the athletes can be read here.

Artur Saparbekov will compete in the classic style sprint and the 10-kilometer freestyle event on the trails of Val di Fiemme.

Timur Shakirov will participate in the giant slalom and slalom events, which will take place at the Bormio ski resort.

The XXV Winter Olympics will be held from February 6 to 22, 2026, and the Winter Paralympics will take place from March 6 to 15.

The competitions are expected to feature 2,871 athletes from 93 countries, who will compete for 116 sets of medals in 16 disciplines.
