
Production of medals for the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games has started in Italy, and according to the State Mint IPZS, their production cost has reached record levels. The design of the medals consists of two connected halves, symbolizing both the athletes' journey to success and the support they receive along the way.
The price of a gold medal exceeds 800 dollars, which is almost twice the cost of the awards for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In accordance with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee, gold medals are made of silver with a six-gram layer of pure gold. Silver medals are made of sterling silver, while bronze medals are entirely made of copper. A total of 1,146 Olympic medals and 137 Paralympic medals will be produced for the upcoming Games.
As of today, Kazakhstan has two licenses in figure skating. Four athletes are awaiting confirmation in short track, and the total number of potential participants is 34 athletes.
