The ceremony for lighting the flame of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, which will take place in Italy, was held in Ancient Olympia. This was reported by RT.

Among those present at the event were the President of Greece, Konstantinos Tasoulas, the head of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry, and Giovanni Malago, who has been appointed as the head of the organizing committee for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the ceremony was moved from the ancient stadium to the Archaeological Museum.
In the final part of the event, the high priestess, played by actress Mary Mina, handed the flame to Petros Gaidatzis, a medalist in rowing at the 2024 Olympics.

The Olympic flame relay will conclude on February 6 at the Olympic Stadium in Milan.

Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution regarding the Olympic truce during the period of the 2026 Games.
