At the World Boxing congress held in Rome, Golovkin was elected to this position unopposed.

It is worth noting that the federation was founded in 2023 as an alternative to the International Boxing Association, led by Umar Kremlov, which entered into conflict with the International Olympic Committee. As a result, the IOC transferred the rights to hold the boxing tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games to the new organization World Boxing.

Gennady Golovkin is currently 43 years old. In his career, he has 42 victories, of which 37 were by knockout, 2 losses, and 1 draw. He became the world champion in the middleweight division (up to 72.6 kilograms) and held high positions in the world rankings of boxers regardless of weight class. In his amateur career, he won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games and became the world champion in 2003. Additionally, starting in February 2024, he will hold the position of president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.
