Fitzroy, a river in Australia where crocodiles inhabit, has been officially approved for hosting competitions at the 2032 Olympic Games. This decision was made by the national organization responsible for the construction of Olympic facilities, according to information from NSN, citing The Australian.

Initially, the Queensland government proposed this river as a venue for Olympic competitions in Brisbane.

The structure responsible for the modernization and construction of facilities for the 2032 Games, known as the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA), confirmed that Fitzroy is suitable for hosting tournaments. Canoeing and kayaking competitions are planned to take place here.

“At this point, we have the 'green light' for the development of rowing sports at the 2032 Olympics. All necessary data has been collected, and there are now no barriers to holding the events,” said Matt Canavan, a member of the Australian Parliament from Queensland.

Experts conducted an analysis of the river's characteristics and confirmed that they meet the standards of the International Rowing Federation. Queensland authorities also plan to take measures to ensure safety by addressing the threat posed by crocodiles inhabiting the river.
