The finalist of the 2008 Olympic Games in Greco-Roman wrestling, Kanat Begaliev, shared his opinion about Akzhol Makhmudov after his setback at the tournament in Russia.

On November 8, Makhmudov stepped onto the mat at the PWL tournament in Moscow, where he suffered a defeat against Bulgarian wrestler Aikka Mnatsakanyan. This loss was the first for the Kyrgyzstani in this tournament.

“He talks a lot about his wrestling. If he competes actively, there are those who are dissatisfied, and if he doesn’t — it’s the same. But I believe that his dedication to training and determination is already our victory,” noted Begaliev.

After the Olympics, Akzhol got married. According to experts, after marriage, the body needs time to adapt.

Akzhol's sports path resembles the career of Kazakh judoka Eldos Smetov, which I mentioned to him. In his youth, Eldos took second place at the Olympics, and later, at the peak of his form, he became third. When many had already stopped believing in him, he won a gold medal.

We have high hopes for Akzhol. I believe that at the 2028 Olympics, if we manage to win 2-3 gold medals, one of them could go to Akzhol,” added Kanat Begaliev in an interview with @azamat_murataliev.
