As of today, the level of Greco-Roman wrestling in Kyrgyzstan is assessed as below average. This is my personal opinion. The results of the recent competitions are disappointing. I do not believe that the blame lies with the federation or the state. The internal problems that should be addressed first have become a subject of public discussion and have caused a wide resonance.

Kanat Begaliev, a finalist in the 2008 Olympic Games, shared his thoughts on the current state of Greco-Roman wrestling in the country.

In an interview with @azamat_murataliev, he outlined the key issues facing this sport.

“I want to express my thoughts about the coaches. It seems to me that many of them are dissatisfied. Each coach works individually with a few athletes, and I do not support this. It is important for all coaches to unite. There is very little time left before the Olympics, and it may not be enough. I urge coaches to come together. If we have 10 weight categories, then at least 20 coaches will be needed to ensure everyone is involved. We need to support the current national team coaches. They should be on the mat, not just watching from the sidelines.

We have many talented coaches, and unity is what is needed. Everything is in their hands!

As for the athletes, it seems to me that some of them are trying to be excluded. Yes, every coach has their share of jealousy. I am not a coach, but I am ready to help. I am willing to work for free. If your guys succeed at the Olympics, then it is you who will receive the awards and titles for them. I have two sons who also practice wrestling, but I do not coach them.

Let’s raise an Olympic champion together!” emphasized Kanat Begaliev.
