The president called on deputies to consider mandatory voter participation in elections
Sadyr Japarov, serving as president, during the first session of the Jogorku Kenesh of the VIII convocation, proposed to introduce mandatory participation of citizens in the electoral process. He noted that the creation of necessary conditions did not lead to the expected increase in turnout, which was supposed to reach 70%.
“Unfortunately, this did not happen,” he added, pointing to the main reason - low electoral culture and the indifference of the population.
The head of state also noted that those citizens who sell their votes actively participate in elections, while the rest remain inert. “Perhaps it is worth considering the introduction of mandatory measures or looking for other approaches,” Japarov emphasized, urging deputies to work on this direction.
