At the Seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, voiced initiatives for deepening economic integration in the region.
He noted that the volume of foreign direct investments from neighboring countries into Kyrgyzstan increased by 15% over the past year, reaching 135 million US dollars.
Over the past three years, trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia has grown by 28%. From the beginning of the year until August of the current year, it amounted to 1 billion 700 million US dollars, which is 14% more compared to the same period last year, the president added.
To further deepen integration, Japarov proposed to focus on three main areas:
The first area: actively eliminate trade barriers between countries and harmonize existing standards and technical regulations.
The second area: develop joint production chains, moving from a raw material economy to the creation of processing industries and new industrial clusters.
The third area: use digitalization as a stimulus for growth, including e-commerce and the creation of cross-border platforms for information exchange and enhancing cybersecurity.
In addition, Sadyr Japarov emphasized the importance of developing transport infrastructure for the region.
He noted that the construction of the strategically important railway "China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan" will not only connect the countries but also change logistics, providing the shortest route to the largest markets in Asia and Europe.
In this context, the Zangezur corridor project appears to be a logical and strategic continuation of the "China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan" railway, he added.
